Charuma is a new character in one of South Africa's popular soaps, Generations, and is played by none other than Zimbabwe's SA-based actress, Yvonne Katsande.
Katsande, who rose to fame in 2000 when she played the role of Sarah Newton in Studio 263, recently had a chance to show her talent on Generations and did very well to portray the character.
Similar to her role in Studio 263, in Generations Katsande plays a very successful businesswoman who lets nothing discourage or get in her way.
"I seem to attract this particular character and I am glad to have landed my recent role in June through my agent Jays Artiste Management owned by Obey Muchipisi, who has been as awesome manager," said Katsande.
She said when she left Studio 263 around 2004, she was searching for new horizons, possibilities and ventures and she had also planned to travel the world.
During the same time she gave birth to a baby girl that she certainly needed quality time with.
"Since then I've been running ‘House of Envoy, a combination of a guest house, a boutique and just recently I'm venturing into a production house and a talk show of my own," added Katsande.
She said this the business had kept her going while some television work including a lot of commercials like a recently finished one with Econet Wireless, and a couple of commercials on the Nigerian television had provided complimentary income.
Katsande has also done some documentaries including one titled A Healthy You and her biggest hit has been on the Love World SAT Television 2 where she worked as News Producer and Anchor.
"I am also going to be on another popular television series titled The Wild on its next season, but I don't want to say much now. People must just look out for my new role on set."
Katsande said her first five episodes as Ainra on Generations would run for just a week but in a couple of months, Ainra would be returning to Mzansi again to join her friend Mawande in a joint business venture.
She said she was the only Zimbabwean on set and she was happy that the other actors were so friendly to her.
"I have plans of coming back to settle in Zimbabwe, I'm just not sure when."
