The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, ZUJ, has expressed deep concerns over developments in which several journalists and media workers have lost their jobs following the unpopular 17 July Supreme Court ruling which allowed employers to terminate contracts on notice.

So far, The Daily News has dismissed 15 media workers, 11 of them journalists, while Alpha Media Holdings, AMH is reported to have fired 21 media workers, five of them journalists. The Union would like to urge employers to consider the plight of workers while we go through this difficult period.

"In line with the Union's mandate to represent its members on their labour rights and working conditions, ZUJ will this Thursday, 30 July, convene a workers' indaba at The Ambassador Hotel, The Quill Club to try and unpack the Supreme Court ruling and the way forward," said ZUJ.

"Organisations and individuals to speak will include, ZCTU, ZFTU, Munyaradzi Gwisai, Professor Lovemore Madhuku and representatives of Government and political parties."
