The newly founded football club, Sporting Chikomba is on the verge of collapse, a few months after its formation due to financial constraints.
The ambitious FC had even come up with a club house where eight players were staying but this is all coming to nought.

The founder and chairman of the team, Solomon Taruvinga, confirmed the development and made a passionate plea for well wishers to come forward and rescue the team.

He said that he will notify the responsible football body National Football Association of Zimbabwe (NAFAZ) board about the difficulties the team is facing.

The team has failed to play some of the matches it was supposed to.

"The main objective of the team was to develop talents so that youth can get opportunities to play for bigger teams. Sporting Chikomba was established after the realisation that the district lacked entertainment in terms of sport. We have not been able to attract sponsorship and our community has been slow to warm up to the idea of giving donations to support the team.

"Our target was to be promoted into Division 1.  The team relied on some individual sponsors but the funds were not enough," said Taruvinga.
Sporting Chikomba FC has played only eight games, four away and four at home. It lost all the away games and secured 3 draws at home.
"Probably our potential sponsors have not been satisfied with the results from the matches we played. I am however, optimistic the young boys could have done well if they had been given full support," said Taruvinga.

Sporting Chikomba FC had established a clubhouse in Northwood residential suburb, where 10 players from various places in the district are accommodated. Due to the serious financial crisis, the team can no longer meet the subsistence costs.

Tonderai Ruzive, the secretary for the team, said although the team players have all the anxiety in soccer, they cannot achieve their goals as soccer players without the necessary resources.

"We tried to raise our own funds through introducing some entrance payments for matches in Garwe Stadium but the community failed to accept it. Our players are very promising but there are no resources."

Sporting Chikomba board members are appealing to well-wishers for sponsorship.

The team was formed after the demise of Chivhu Stars late last year.

Sporting Chikomba is the only football club in the district that is affiliated to NAFAZ.
