Some parents in Kwazulu Natali are in trouble for allegedly burning two offices at school.

Daily Sun reported that on Wednesday, matric pupils at Mvaba High School in Inanda, near Durban, were supposed to write their June exams. But they were sent home because the principal's office and staff -room were on fire.

As pupils returned to class under heavy security yesterday, parents claimed school property would not have been damaged if the education department had not mistreated principal Ngcebo Sibiya.

Sibiya was suspended in September for allegedly assaulting one of the teachers. Two weeks ago he returned to school after the case against him was withdrawn due to lack of evidence. However, 22 teachers downed tools after his return, claiming he was difficult to work under. This led to a number of protests.

School governing body member Mthokozisi Magwaza (43) said it wasn't clear who started the fire but the department was responsible for not resolving problems at the school.

KZN Police Captain Nqobile Gwala said a case of arson was opened at Inanda Police Station but no arrests had been made.
