Bulawayo City Council has vowed to continue partnering with the Intwasa Festival in the preparations and conduction of the activity.

According to latest council minutes, the Acting Town Clerk Sikhangele Zhou reported (20th May, 2016) that a dated 7 January 2016 had been received from Intwasa Festival Director Raisedon Baya.

The letter reads,"Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo, one of the biggest arts events in Zimbabwe, is proudly a Bulawayo event and product. In fact, with the absence of Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA) this year the idea is to push Intwasa as the biggest event in Zimbabwe. This is very possible with the continued support of the city of Bulawayo."

The minutes states that Intwasa Arts Festival continues to be a critical cultural platform, both in terms of the democratisation of arts and culture in the country and as a space to promote Bulawayo heritage, cultural expressions and creative spaces.

"The past two years has seen Bulawayo City Council actively supporting the festival and its activities in various ways. This letter seeks to continue the partnership between the festival and Bulawayo City Council by requesting support for 2016 in the following areas: The use of the City Hall Car Park at discounted rates on 28 September – 1 October 2016," reads the minutes.

"The use of Large City Hall for community events like school and community
choral competitions and Bayethe Bulawayo Concert. That Bulawayo City Council supports the schools choral competitions. That Bulawayo City Council supports the Bayethe Bulawayo Concert with publicity material. Bulawayo City Council helps bring a group or artist from Thekwini/ Durban or Polokwane to Bulawayo during September for cultural exchange. Bulawayo City Council to take care of the group/ artist from Thekwini/ Durban or Polokwane while in Bulawayo."

The report states that support for all, or any of the above would go a long way in helping Intwasa Arts Festival reach out to many Bulawayo residents who now see the festival as their space and platform for cultural expression.

"The 2016 editions of the festival will be held 26 September – 1 October 2016 under the theme expression. About 50 events covering performances, exhibition, public discussions, workshops, games and competitions will be curated during the one week festival," reads the minutes.
