Dancehall musician Tocky Vibes collapsed on his way to a show in Glendale on Monday and was forced to cancel the gig after being hospitalised.

The musician was billed to perform with Leonard Zhakata at Club 007 in a "Heros Day Special" show.

Tocky Vibes is said to have collapsed in the city centre while he was on his way to the show and was rushed to Avenues Clinic.

"We were in town going to Glendale when it all started. We could not proceed to the show because the doctor advised him to have a bed rest," said a member of his camp who declined to be named.

The source said according to the doctor the musician had been attacked by malaria.

"They said it was malaria though we were afraid that it was a different case," he said.

The "Mhai" hit-maker was then advised to rest before being released from hospital the following day.

"He was told to rest and up to now he has not yet fully recovered."

The musician's manager Elvis Bokosha confirmed the illness but could not divulge more information.

"That was disturbing but because I was already in Glendale when it happened I cannot give you more details," he said.

Bokosha said the musician was recovering and they were optimistic that he will be fit by tomorrow.

"He was advised to rest so he is at home but hopefully by Friday he will be okay for shows," he said.

Efforts to get comment from the musician himself were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.

The musician rose to fame with his song "Mhai" that became an anthem in most public places.

Recently he released an album "Toti Toti" that has been well received by music lovers.
